Activator Chiropractic Tool Provides Alternative to Manual Adjustments
Dr. Alan W. Fuhr created the treatment method known as the Activator Method Chiropractic Technique (AMCT). This technique allows chiropractors to make low-force adjustments to the spine and extremities instead of more forceful manual adjustments. This technique is carried out with an activator chiropractic tool, which was also co-designed by Dr. Fuhr.
The AMCT requires the patient to lie face down on the chiropractic table. This allows the chiropractor to examine the lengths of the patient’s legs. In many cases, one leg will be somewhat shorter than the other leg. The doctor then has the patient maneuver their body into specific positions in order to stimulate the muscles that are attached to the patient’s vertebrae. The chiropractor then examines the legs again and if the lengths of the legs change at all, the doctor knows that the problem resides in the alignment of the patient’s vertebrae.
If the patient’s vertebrae are found to be the root of the problem, the chiropractor can use an activator chiropractic tool to make adjustments. The doctor uses the tool from the vertebrae closest to the patient’s feet and then works their way upwards toward the head making low-force adjustments.
There are many sources of medical news that show that the AMCT method has brought about significant improvements for many patients with vertebral-level issues. Currently, about 150,000 chiropractors around the world use this method for making spinal adjustments. Most of the chiropractic schools in the United States and many chiropractic schools in other countries teach this method to their students since the majority of chiropractors, medical professionals, and numerous studies support the effectiveness of treating back pain and other spinal problems with AMCT.
