All You Need to Know about the Balloon Catheter

A balloon catheter is a piece of medical equipment that is used to help enlarge some type of small, narrow opening in the human body while inserting a catheter. The device has a soft balloon at the end of the catheter. The catheter is inserted into the body deflated and flat. Once the catheter has been positioned properly, the balloon at the tip is inflated and then the procedure that needs to be performed in this area of the body can be completed. This type of procedure or equipment is sometimes known as an angioplasty.

The balloon catheter was first invented in 1963 by a man named Thomas Fogarty. When Fogarty invented this type of catheter, it helped to revolutionize how certain types of surgical procedures were performed. One of the most popular types of balloon catheters is the Foley catheter. This type of catheter has a rubber tube that is inserted through the urethra of the individual until it reaches the bladder. When the tube gets into the bladder, the nurse or physician will use water or air to inflate the balloon at the end of the tube. This balloon serves to help keep the tube in place and prevents it from coming out. (more…)

Medical supplies for certain conditions tend to be much more expensive than others. For example, getting a box of lancets so you can check your blood sugar is a much less expensive proposition than picking up the glucose meter you’ll need to go with it.

Combat Dehydrated Skin with Quality Esthetician Supplies

Dehydration of the skin is one of the most common ailments that estheticians face. Dehydration can be caused by many elements including the weather, what a person eats and drinks and the products that a person puts on their skin. If you are an esthetician, you need the right esthetician supplies to combat dry, dull, flaky skin and bring out the beauty in your patients.

One common cause of skin dehydration is consumption of caffeine, according to the blog written by Virtual Esthetician. In the blog, the esthetician explains that while caffeine can have beneficial effects when applied to the outside of the skin, when it is consumed excessively, it can lead to severely dehydrated skin that looks older and more wrinkled. When skin does not have the proper amount of hydration, it will lose that healthy glow and will look dull and lifeless. As an esthetician, it is always wise to advise your patients to cut down on the caffeine that they consume. They should especially avoid caffeinated drinks like coffee and soda, because they are higher in caffeine than foods like chocolate. Regular and diet sodas are also bad for the skin because of the high amounts of sugars or artificial sweeteners. When you are treating patients that are suffering from prematurely aged skin due to dryness, always find out if they are consuming these types of drinks and recommend that they stay away for the health of their skin. Get the Best Physical Therapy Supplies

You shouldn’t be limited to the physical therapy supplies at your local medical supply store, but many practices make the mistake of getting all of their supplies from the store in town.  The next mistake you could make is ordering everything from one catalog.  When you do this, you miss out on many of the best brands and manufacturers for the simplicity of ordering everything in one place.  It’s true that ordering from the catalogs means you can have everything delivered, but there are better ways to achieve this, too.

Choosing the Right Physical Therapy Equipment

The right physical therapy equipment for your practice is a very important decision. With many different manufacturers in several different price ranges, you may feel a bit overwhelmed when it comes time to make a choice.  There are a few things you shouldn’t do, or you may end up paying way too much money for equipment that you don’t really like.  First of all, you should use your local supplier for last minute purchases, but don’t count on them to supply everything in your practice.  This is because you’ll pay more than retail price for the products you really need.  After all, the retailer must pay for the staff salaries and storefront space, while still making a profit.  That means you’ll end up paying whatever prices they mark on the rehabilitation products, especially if you don’t realize there are better options out there for you.

If you do decide to order from the Internet, you should never hand over your financial information before you fully investigate the company selling the physical therapy equipment.  It’s a sad fact, but there are companies out there that are only in business long enough to take advantage of as many customers as possible. These companies will take your money and run.  Fortunately, this type of thing isn’t as common as you might think, and as long as you take the time to do adequate research, there is no reason you should fear being taken advantage of.  (more…)
